It is the world’s largest multi-day walking event: the Four Days Marches Nijmegen. Each year, the Dutch Red Cross employs over 600 volunteers to make sure walkers and visitors have a great experience. Volunteers from around the whole country work long days and short nights, which makes it important to address each other and indicate boundaries. Together with Faculty of Skills, a succesful training program was implemented for this. Participants and coaches are very enthusiastic!
Nynke Smit-Berendsen, Project Leader Four Days Assistance at the Red Cross, tells about how coordinators and team leaders trained three types of communication skills in the weeks leading to the event in this case study.
